The SportsXchange Player Notes: HOT NEWS
Mar 8 2010 - Darren Sharper (Saints)
FS Darren Sharper said he had arthroscopic surgery on his knee, according to the Associated Press. Sharper is currently an unrestricted free agent, and missed two regular-season games with knee swelling last season.

Mar 8 2010 - Terrell Owens (Bills)
WR Terrell Owens is expected to visit with the Bengals on Tuesday, the same day as Antonio Bryant, according to ESPN.

Mar 8 2010 - Michael Vick (Eagles)
QB Mike Vick was not traded or released by the 4 p.m. EST deadline, meaning the Eagles chose to pay him a $1.5 million roster bonus due Monday.
Vick believes he can be a starting quarterback again after not having been one since 2006. Obviously, the question is whether other NFL teams believe he can, and whether he is worth the financial, draft-pick and time investment a team would need to make that decision.
The financial part goes beyond the $3.75 million base salary in Vick's contract for 2010. Once that roster bonus is paid, $1 million of his salary becomes guaranteed.
In addition, there are $2.75 million in incentives that become very reachable if Vick is a team's starting quarterback. Thus, if a team were to give up a draft pick today for Vick, they would be taking on a potential $8 million investment, $6.5 million after the bonus payment. If he were to be traded at this point, the new team could agree to pay the bonus.

Mar 8 2010 - Greg Ellis (Free Agent)
DE Greg Ellis has been waived by the Raiders, according to ESPN. Ellis had seven sacks and was a steadying presence in the locker room last season.

Mar 8 2010 - Fred Robbins (Rams)
DT Fred Robbins has signed a three-year deal with St. Louis. It could be worth as much as $12 million with incentives, according to a report by ESPN. Robbins struggled to recapture that quick first step he had prior to knee surgery during the 2009 off-season.

Mar 8 2010 - Ryan Lilja (Free Agent)
LG Ryan Lilja, who was due a $1.73 million roster bonus this month, has been released by the Colts, according to FOXSports.com. Lilja, 28, started every game last season, but the offensive line play during the Super Bowl XLIV loss was criticized heavily by team president Bill Polian.

Mar 8 2010 - Antonio Bryant (Buccaneers)
WR Antonio Bryant is expected to visit with the Bengals, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Bryant is a free agent after not being franchised by Tampa Bay.

Mar 8 2010 - Chris Chambers (Chiefs)
WR Chris Chambers has returned to Kansas City with a three-year deal that can be worth up to $15 million and includes $5.9 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN.

Mar 8 2010 - Michael Vick (Eagles)
QB Mike Vick's $1.5 million bonus is expected to be paid by the Eagles on Monday. Vick signed with the Eagles last summer calls for a $1.5 million roster bonus to be paid on the fifth day of the league year. The fifth day is Tuesday, March 9, meaning if Vick is not traded or released by 4 p.m. Eastern time Monday, he will receive the bonus.
Thus, if a team were to give up a draft pick today for Vick, they would be taking on a potential $8 million investment, $6.5 million after today, assuming the Eagles pay the bonus. If he were to be traded Tuesday, the new team could agree to pay the bonus.

Mar 7 2010 - Chris Houston (Lions)
CB Chris Houston appears to be the odd man out following the Falcons' signing of Dunta Robinson, with ESPN reporting that Atlanta is on the first of sending Houston to Detroit. The Lions would send a sixth-round pick to Atlanta, and the teams would switch spots in the fifth round.

Mar 7 2010 - Aaron Kampman (Jaguars)
DE Aaron Kampman has agreed to a deal with the Jaguars. Terms were not disclosed. Kampman, who switched to outside linebacker in the Packers' new 3-4 scheme, is expected to play defensive end for the Jaguars according to the report.

Mar 6 2010 - Aaron Kampman (Jaguars)
DE Aaron Kampman has agreed to a deal with the Jaguars, according to the Florida Times-Union. Terms were not disclosed. Kampman, who switched to outside linebacker in the Packers' new 3-4 scheme, is expected to play defensive end for the Jaguars according to the report.

Mar 6 2010 - Kerry Rhodes (Cardinals)
S Kerry Rhodes' rocky last year with the Jets came to an end Saturday as he was dealt to Arizona for a fourth-round pick in 2010 and a seventh-rounder in 2011. He will help fill the void of FS Antrel Rolle, who signed with the Giants the previous day. "He fits a lot of the things that we do defensively," Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said in a statement, "and the prospect of having him alongside a perennial All-Pro like Adrian Wilson is very exciting." The deal came the day after Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said he expected Rhodes to be with the team next season. Rhodes has four years left on his contract, and is due a $2 million roster bonus next week.

Mar 5 2010 - Antrel Rolle (Giants)
S Antrel Rolle signed a five-year, $37 million deal with the Giants that includes $15 million in guaranteed money. "Antrel is a young, ascending veteran player, and he is an outstanding person who will bring leadership, versatility and more big play ability to our secondary," general manager Jerry Reese said. Rolle, 27, has played in 68 regular season games with 59 starts. His career totals include 337 tackles (296 solo), 12 interceptions (including four he has returned for touchdowns; three in 2007), 36 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and 1.5 sacks.

Mar 5 2010 - Karlos Dansby (Cardinals)
LB Karlos Dansby has agreed to a five-year deal with the Dolphins that is worth $43 million and includes $22 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN.

Mar 5 2010 - Joshua Cribbs (Browns)
WR/RS Josh Cribbs finally has the multi-year deal he has long sought, agreeing to a restructured contract. The final three years of his six-year contract signed in 2006 were restructured to include $7.5 million in guaranteed money and could be worth as much as $20 million, according to multiple reports. "I'm excited," Cribbs said at a news conference. "It's been a long road. It worked out. We reached a good compromise. I'm happy to wear this uniform proudly, as I've been saying the whole time."

Mar 5 2010 - Julius Peppers (Bears)
DE Julius Peppers signed a six-year deal with Chicago on the first day of free agency that is worth $72 million, according to multiple reports. Peppers chose Chicago over New England and Philadelphia, which both also reportedly made contract offers. But Peppers visited only Chicago. The NFL Network reported the deal to be worth $79.8 million and including $40 million in guaranteed money over the first three seasons.

Mar 5 2010 - Vince Wilfork (Patriots)

Mar 5 2010 - Anquan Boldin (Ravens)
WR Anquan Boldin was traded to the Ravens, who sent third- and fourth-round picks to Arizona. Boldin also signed a three-year, $25 million extension that includes $10 million in guaranteed money.

Mar 5 2010 - Julius Peppers (Bears)
DE Julius Peppers will visit the Bears on Friday, the first day of free agency, agent Carl Carey told the Chicago Sun-Times. "It's a good sign that the Bears are getting the first visit," Carey told the paper. Philadelphia and New England have already made contract offers, according to the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.

Mar 5 2010 - Kyle Vanden Bosch (Lions)
DE Kyle Vanden Bosch has agreed to a four-year deal with Detroit, according to multiple reports. Financial terms weren't immediately known. Lions coach Jim Schwartz, the former Titans defensive coordinator, showed up to Vanden Bosch's house just as free agency began Friday morning.
