The SportsXchange Player Notes: LEVEL 2 NEWS
Sep 7 2010 - Bob Sanders (Colts)
S Bob Sanders should be ready for Sunday's game. "I think he is in great shape. I think he feels good physically. He's moved around well on the field. He understands the overall philosophy of the defense and his assignments and he has executed well. I do feel good about where he is," said coach Jim Caldwell.

Sep 6 2010 - Troy Smith (Ravens)
QB Troy Smith signed with the 49ers. Smith was released by the Ravens, who opted to keep only two quarterbacks -- Marc Bulger and Joe Flacco. The 49ers waived Nate Davis to make room on the roster for Smith.

Sep 6 2010 - Jason Allen (Dolphins)
CB Jason Allen will start ahead of second-year man Sean Smith for the Sept. 12 season-opener at Buffalo. Smith was informed of this plan over the weekend after Cowboys WR Sam Hurd became the latest to beat him for a lengthy completion in the preseason. Hurd caught a 43-yard touchdown pass behind Smith in the preseason finale on Thursday, and later drew a defensive-holding call on Smith. Smith, a second-round pick out of Utah in 2009, became the first rookie corner in club history to start all 16 games. Now Allen, who started the final two preseason games, will get a chance to change his image as a slow-developing player who can only be trusted on special teams.

Sep 6 2010 - Tom Zbikowski (Ravens)
FS Tom Zbikowski will start the first six games of the season because Ed Reed (hip) is on PUP.

Sep 6 2010 - Billy Cundiff (Ravens)
K Billy Cundiff won the kicking battle over Shayne Graham. Cundiff distanced himself with his kickoffs, which regularly landed deep in the end zone.

Sep 6 2010 - Jeff Saturday (Colts)
C Jeff Saturday (knee) practiced Monday. There has been no decision on whether he will play at Houston on Sunday "I'll tell you this, he has a real good shot at it. Let's put it that way," said coach Jim Caldwell.

Sep 6 2010 - Fili Moala (Colts)
DT Fili Moala was arrested, and subsequently released from custody, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, public intoxication and speeding late last week. The Colts have had no comment on Moala's situation or if it will affect his status for Sunday's game at Houston.

Sep 6 2010 - Albert Haynesworth (Redskins)
DL Albert Haynesworth, who played 49 of 55 snaps in the Sept. 2 preseason finale at Arizona, took some work with the first team during Monday's practice.
However, there's been no indication that the two-time All-Pro is going to start ahead of either nose tackle Ma'ake Kemoeatu or right end Kedric Golston in Sunday's season opener against Dallas.
"Any time a person plays the defensive end position, the nose position, it takes some time," said Shanahan, adamantly refusing to reveal his starters. "It doesn't happen overnight. I thought he did a good job considering how many plays he did (play) at a couple of different positions. It was work that was well-needed and he played hard. He worked hard and made a few mistakes, but he's getting better. He's in much better shape than he was before. We'll play the best players who are ready to play."
Haynesworth, whom the Redskins paid a $21 million bonus in April as part of the record seven-year, $100 million contract they gave him in February 2009, fell behind his defensive line mates by blowing off the offseason conditioning program and mandatory minicamp at Redskins Park. He failed Shanahan's conditioning test three times upon his return for training camp before finally rejoining his teammates on the field on the 10th day of camp.
Speaking of 10 days, that's now how long it has been since Haynesworth addressed the media.

Sep 6 2010 - J.T. O'Sullivan (Chargers)
QB J.T. O'Sullivan signed with the Chargers, a day after being released by Cincinnati. He will be the third quarterback behind Philip Rivers and Billy Volek.

Sep 6 2010 - Akeem Robinson (Free Agent)
CB Dunta Robinson did not play in the preseason, but is expected to start to open the season. "I'm ready to take it from the practice field into the game," Robinson said.
Robinson, the franchise's major offseason acquisition, did not play during the preseason after suffering a hamstring injury early in training camp.
He was signed to a six-year, $57.5 million contract and is expected to add some blanket coverage to a secondary that finished ranked 28th in the league (242.1 yards per game) against the pass last season.
While he didn't play in the exhibition games, Robinson has been practicing for the last two weeks. After last season's rash of injuries, the Falcons were extremely cautious with Robinson.
He wanted to play in the exhibition finale against Jacksonville, but the coaching staff elected to sit 22 of the 24 projected starters.
"Obviously that was the best thing for me, because now it feels much better," Robinson said. "Not rushing it was a good thing. Coming out here and getting focused and still getting the mental reps was a good thing."

Sep 6 2010 - Levi Brown (Free Agent)
QB Levi Brown, who didn't make the Bills' 53-man roster and wasn't signed to the practice squad, was disappointed after what he felt was a strong preseason.
On his Twitter account, Brown wrote: "NEVER woulda guessed id be in this position right now. Not even a practice squad invite. i've now officially gone from surprised to pissed!
"got cut. sucks. but it hasnt ever been an easy road for me. just means i gotta prove people wrong...AGAIN"

Sep 6 2010 - Tony Richardson (Jets)
FB Tony Richardson re-signed with the Jets on Monday. He was surprisingly released over the weekend in the final cutdown to 53 players on the roster. Coach Rex Ryan said it was merely a procedural move.

Sep 6 2010 - Charlie Batch (Steelers)
QB Charlie Batch will be the backup to Dennis Dixon for the team's regular-season opener, coach Mike Tomlin said Monday.

Sep 6 2010 - Chase Blackburn (Giants)
LB Chase Blackburn, who suffered a knee injury in the preseason game against Baltimore, returned to practice today. Blackburn said last week that his goal had been to get back on the practice field this week as the Giants prepare for their season opener against Carolina this weekend.
The return Blackburn, who can play all three linebacker positions and special teams, is of significant importance to the Giants, who this week could be without Phillip Dillard (hamstring) and Gerris Wilkinson (groin), both of whom did not practice on Monday.

Sep 6 2010 - Deuce Lutui (Cardinals)
OG Deuce Lutui is back as his usual spot – starting right guard. A restricted free agent this offseason, Lutui didn't sign his one-year qualifying offer until June and reportedly weighed nearly 400 pounds. Coaches were not happy but Lutui wasn't sweating it.
"It's not the first time I've been called fat," he quipped.
Lutui weighs about 365 now and beat out Reggie Wells for the starting job. Wells was traded to Philadelphia.

Sep 6 2010 - Corey McIntyre (Bills)
FB Corey McIntyre, reported to be released over the weekend, has in fact signed a two-year extension, according to ProFootballTalk.com. The base salaries under the new deal are $630,000 in 2010, $950,000 in 2011 and $900,000 in 2012, according to the report.

Sep 6 2010 - Chris Chambers (Chiefs)
WR Chris Chambers was back practicing with the team on Monday after not playing in the final preseason game with an unknown problem. Chambers did not give any indication of an injury before he missed the game or afterwards.

Sep 6 2010 - Charlie Anderson (Free Agent)
LB Charlie Anderson was released by Miami to make room for Bobby Carpenter.

Sep 6 2010 - Bobby Carpenter (Dolphins)
LB Bobby Carpenter, who was released by the Rams, signed with Miami. The 6-2, 249-pounder was the 18th overall selection of the Cowboys in the 2006 NFL Draft and has recorded 66 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two passes defensed. He spent training camp with St. Louis after being traded for tackle Alex Barron on May 10.

Sep 6 2010 - Troy Smith (Ravens)
QB Troy Smith was released by Baltimore, which was unable to trade the veteran who logged 122 snaps during the preseason.

Sep 6 2010 - Gerald McRath (Titans)
LB Gerald McRath was officially placed on the reserve/suspended list, as he was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
McRath was in line to become a starter at outside linebacker after starting five games as a rookie a year ago in place of David Thornton. "Words can't describe how I feel right now," an apologetic McRath said in June. "It's funny, because you always hear and you always get taught and they say you're responsible for what you put in your system. Being a player, you say, 'OK, I'm going to look and double-check anything you take. You say, 'I'm not going to be that guy.'"

Sep 5 2010 - Jarron Gilbert (Bears)
DT Jarron Gilbert, a 2009 third-round pick who played sparingly in four games, was released on Saturdya.

Sep 5 2010 - Chauncey Washington (Free Agent)
RB Chauncey Washington was waived by the Jets.

Sep 5 2010 - Stanford Keglar (Free Agent)
LB Stanford Keglar was released by Tennessee.

Sep 5 2010 - Patrick Bailey (Titans)
LB Patrick Bailey, considered a strong special teams player, signed with Tennessee after not making Pittsburgh's 53-man roster.
