|
Sep 7 2010 - Sage Rosenfels (Giants) QB Sage Rosenfels said that in a perfect world, he'd manage to learn the Giants' entire offensive playbook in time for the season-opener against Carolina on Sunday. However given the number of plays contained in the giants' massive book, Rosenfels will instead be taking a systematic approach to make sure he is up to speed with the X's and O's.
"It's fairly obvious that all those plays won't be in every week's game plan," he said. "What I'm going to try to do is to get down to those 100 plays or anything that is in the game plan so that coach can call whatever he needs to call, and trust that I know what I'm doing."

|
Sep 6 2010 - Peyton Manning (Colts) QB Peyton Manning doesn't think that there will be a huge change in the Colts' offense this season as compared to other years that he's been with the team.
"I certainly feel confident in [Clyde Christensen] and what he'll bring to the table," Manning said. "I think it will take some getting used to for a lot of players, [but] I've worked real closely with Clyde the past few years, so I'm looking forward to the relationship growing."
|
Sep 6 2010 - Rusty Smith (Titans) QB Rusty Smith overcame the odds of being a low-round draft pick from an unheralded school to make the Titans roster as a third-string quarterback. Smith was kept in favor of veteran Chris Simms, who was released on Saturday.
Smith played well enough in the preseason, despite some inconsistency (18 of 33 for 198 yards and two picks) and displayed a strong arm, so the Titans were not willing to subject him to the waiver wire.
He credits his playing in a pro-style offense with helping him have a chance to make early headway.
"I think it was a huge advantage for me, because I've taken snaps from under center before, whereas a lot of guys have just taken snaps from the shotgun," Smith said. "Even though I did come from a pro-style offense, I still had stuff to work on -- on footwork and my drops. I can't imagine not having any kind of pro-style in my system at all."

Sep 6 2010 - Dennis Dixon (Steelers) QB Dennis Dixon was named the Steelers' starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Falcons. Coach Mike Tomlin said Dixon's performance in preseason games convinced him he was ready. Dixon earned the nod over Charlie Batch.
|
Sep 6 2010 - Dennis Dixon (Steelers) QB Dennis Dixon will start the Steelers' regular-season opener, coach Mike Tomlin said after Monday's practice. Dixon got the nod over veteran Charlie Batch in large part due to his mobility. Pittsburgh has struggled with pass protection in recent years. Dixon also enjoyed a strong preseason, while Batch was on the verge of being released until Byron Leftwich, the projected starter with Ben Roethlisberger suspended for the first four games, suffered a knee injury.
"Dennis has had a very productive preseason and training camp," Tomlin said. "He went into the training camp as a young guy, second in the pecking order behind Byron Leftwich. He did a nice job and made it extremely competitive. He waged a battle and got some first-team reps in some preseason games. Largely, we've been very impressed with how he's handled himself in game situations."

Sep 6 2010 - Derek Anderson (Cardinals) QB Derek Anderson met media Monday for the first time as a starter in Arizona. He naturally was asked about his time with the Browns, who released him earlier this asked. A reporter prefaced a question by saying, "this Cleveland stuff seems to stick with you."
Anderson smile and replied: "Then quit reading it and writing it."
Coaches have worked with Anderson on developing some touch. He's a career 53 percent passer, partly because he tends to throw everything at the same speed: very fast.
"I haven't noticed anything that's stood out over the past few weeks so, hopefully, we've made progress with that," coach Ken Whisenhunt said.
|
Sep 6 2010 - Brady Quinn (Broncos) QB Brady Quinn played much more controlled against the Vikings than he had in other preseason games, albeit against deep Minnesota reserves. |
Sep 6 2010 - Colt McCoy (Browns) QB Colt McCoy will not play in another game until next August, but at least the rookie quarterback from Texas can go to the sideline with fond memories of his final appearance in the 2010 preseason. |
