Jan 9 2013 - RB C.J. Spiller took the baton from Fred Jackson this season with Spiller, the ninth overall pick in 2009, enjoying a breakout season despite limited use by former coach Chan Gailey. Spiller carried the ball just 207 times (12.9 per game) but still gained 1,244 yards for a 6.0 average that tied Adrian Peterson for best in the NFL.
He also added 43 catches for 459 yards, giving him 1,703 scrimmage yards, good for sixth overall in the league. He's a player new coach Doug Marrone will build his offense around until he settles on a QB.

Spiller averaged 6.0 yards per carry, tied with Minnesota's Adrian Peterson, who averaged 21.8 carries per game vs. Spiller's 12.9. Other Bills' rankings of note include Ryan Fitzpatrick, 18th among QBs; Stevie Johnson, 18th among receivers; Mario Williams, 17th in sacks; Jairus Byrd, seventh in interceptions; Nick Barnett, 29th in tackles.

He still managed to run for a career-best 1,243 yards and average 6.0 per attempt, second best in club history behind O.J. Simpson's 6.03 in 1973.
Dec 24 2012 - RB C.J. Spiller became the first Bills running back since Thurman Thomas in 1992 to have 10 games with at least 100 yards from scrimmage in a single season. He also became the first back since Travis Henry in 2003 to surpass 1,500 yards from scrimmage in a single season.

The Bills do not want to rush their leading rusher back too early at this early stage of the year. But it appears he'll be a full go for next week's game at San Francisco.

The team is realistically hoping that he'll be ready to play a week from Sunday at San Francisco. "We will do some stuff today and see how I respond. Spiller caught a short pass from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and was injured at the end of a 25-yard play.
With Fred Jackson already out with a knee injury, Tashard Choice assumed the feature back role for the Bills. Spiller, who entered Week 3 averaging 10.1 yards per carry, left the game with four carries for 16 yards and two receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.
