PLAYER NOTES:
Aug 18 2010 - PK Steven Hauschka was claimed off waivers by the Lions. Hauschka was waived by the Falcons on Aug. 15.
Aug 15 2010 - PK Steve Hauschka was released by the Falcons. Hauschka was competing with veteran Matt Bryant for the place-kicking job. He spent the 2008 season and half of 2009 with the Baltimore Ravens before being signed by the Falcons as a free agent on December 29, 2009.
Aug 8 2010 - PK Steven Hauschka is competing with Matt Bryant for the kicking job.
"He kicks it with such ease," coach Mike Smith said. "He has a very good and strong leg. He has an easy swing."
The key for Hauschka will be accuracy and getting through the ball quickly.
"We want to make sure we are getting it off in the prescribed time," Smith said.
Aug 6 2010 - PKs Steve Hauschka and Matt Bryant remain in an open competition. "Normally, most teams bring in one kicker on their 80-man roster. When you have an 85-man roster, maybe there were times where there were two kickers on your roster," said coach Mike Smith. "When you have competition, and we want to have that competition at the kicker position, you've got to have two guys in here to compete and have the opportunity to kick in games. It'll be very interesting through the first three preseason games. Both of those guys are going to get an opportunity to kick field goals, so hopefully it will become very clear on who's going to be our kicker."
Dec 29 2009 - K Steve Hauschka, cut by the Ravens in mid-November, was signed by the Falcons. He could wind up kicking in the season finale if Matt Bryant can't go due to a hamstring injury. Hauschka was 9-for-13 on field-goal tries with Baltimore this year, but he missed four of his last seven.
