PLAYER NOTES:
Sep 7 2010 - DT Albert Haynesworth could be on the move. A broadcast report linked the Redskins' disgruntled defensive lineman to his old team, the Titans, who apparently were contacted over the weekend about a possible deal for Haynesworth.
Sep 6 2010 - DL Albert Haynesworth, who played 49 of 55 snaps in the Sept. 2 preseason finale at Arizona, took some work with the first team during Monday's practice.
However, there's been no indication that the two-time All-Pro is going to start ahead of either nose tackle Ma'ake Kemoeatu or right end Kedric Golston in Sunday's season opener against Dallas.
"Any time a person plays the defensive end position, the nose position, it takes some time," said Shanahan, adamantly refusing to reveal his starters. "It doesn't happen overnight. I thought he did a good job considering how many plays he did (play) at a couple of different positions. It was work that was well-needed and he played hard. He worked hard and made a few mistakes, but he's getting better. He's in much better shape than he was before. We'll play the best players who are ready to play."
Haynesworth, whom the Redskins paid a $21 million bonus in April as part of the record seven-year, $100 million contract they gave him in February 2009, fell behind his defensive line mates by blowing off the offseason conditioning program and mandatory minicamp at Redskins Park. He failed Shanahan's conditioning test three times upon his return for training camp before finally rejoining his teammates on the field on the 10th day of camp.
Speaking of 10 days, that's now how long it has been since Haynesworth addressed the media.
Aug 27 2010 - DT Albert Haynesworth didn't start Friday night, but did enter the game earlier and worked with the first-team defense.
Haynesworth had a meeting with coach Mike Shanahan this week, and is expected to see more time working at end next to NT Ma'aake Kemoeatu. Haynesworth is expected to be moved around and used inside and outside in the team's 3-4 scheme.
Aug 26 2010 - DT Albert Haynesworth hasn't reached starter status on the depth chart yet, but he's back at practice and has been told he'll be use more at defensive end this week than he was last, when he played mostly nose tackle.
Aug 23 2010 - DT Albert Haynesworth met privately with coach Mike Shanahan to clear the air about their rocky start to date. Haynesworth said after Saturday's game against the Ravens that his absence from practice was being misrepresented and that he suffered from rhabdomyolysis, a muscle condition. Shanahan said he wasn't aware of that diagnosis.
"If you guys want to talk about football, we'll talk about football," Shanahan said. "But to keep on talking about things outside of football to me is completely ridiculous. I did have a conversation with him. If you want to talk about football, we'll talk about football."
Aug 22 2010 - DT Albert Haynesworth has rhabdomyolysis, a condition that causes a quick breakdown of skeletal muscle due to injury to muscle tissue, the Washington Post reported. Haynesworth was sidelined from practice last week due to the condition.
Haynesworth did play in Saturday night's preseason game, and criticized coach Mike Shanahan for playing him in the third quarter with the backups and said the Redskins have not been open with the full medical reasons he missed practice last week.
Aug 9 2010 - DT Albert Haynesworth made it through his first full training camp practice Monday. After finally passing the team's conditioning test Saturday, he left midway through Sunday's practice and has his sore left knee wrapped. He's working with the second team behind Maake Kemoeatu for now. "Albert obviously has come in late," coach Mike Shanahan said, "and he's going to have to compete to win a position."
Aug 7 2010 - DT Albert Haynesworth participated in practice Sunday after passing his conditioning test the previous day, but left midway through and had his sore left knee wrapped. "Last year he said he was having problems every third or fourth day with the knee, so there is a problem there," said coach Mike Shanahan. "That's why we're going to make sure that he gets treatment."
Aug 7 2010 - DT Albert Haynesworth finally passed the Redskins' conditioning test Saturday - on the 10th day of training camp.
Haynesworth hadn't attempted the test the previous four days due to a sore left knee. The Redskins ordered an MRI, which showed no structural damage, and Haynesworth arrived Saturday morning ready to take the test. It consists of two 300-yard shuttle runs in 25-yard increments, timed no more than 3 1/2 minutes apart.
Haynesworth was the only Redskin required to take the test because he skipped the team's offseason program in a failed effort to force a trade because he's unhappy with the team's switch to a 3-4 defense.
Aug 6 2010 - DT Albert Haynesworth did not run his conditioning test Friday, although the Washington Post reported an MRI on his left knee was negative.
The MRI was done to make sure there was no structural damage. Coach Mike Shanahan has said Haynesworth will not practice until he's able to complete the conditioning test, which includes two 300-yard shuttle runs timed 3 1/2 minutes apart.
